Ringworm is not a worm at all; it is a contagious fungal infection. Most of the people think that ringworm is a worm which may attack the human’s health. It’s not true at all. It is the same fungal infection which also causes the athlete’s foot, after the scalp, skin and nails. It tends to start as a small round itchy spot, and then develops into a scaly mark that heals from the centre, spreading outwards to its edge, giving the appearance of a ring. Thus the name ringworm is confirmed to it. The ring like appearance got it the name ring worm.
